The Intelligent Heart, The Pure Heart | Book Review

I am in love with this book,

the words really touch my heart.
So,
I guess I should share with all of you
the concluding remarks of the book

Human beings are comprised of
body and soul.
The body represents the terrestrial aspect of humans
whereas the soul is the celestial aspect.
The point where the two meet
is the human heart.

In other words,
the heart acts as a window
between the earthly and the heavenly.

In Islam,
the heart has always been regarded
as an organ of intelligence,
capable of understanding.

In order to achieve
salvation in the Hereafter,
the heart must be purified
from spiritual blemishes.

According to the Islamic approach,
the mind and heart,
body and soul all work in unison,
not independently of each other.

This book has emphasised
the importance of the science of tazkiyyah,
the purification of the heart,
in this age of materialism
where the emphasis is on the brain.

In order to be complete
as human beings,
we must recognise and accept
the importance of the heart's wisdom
together with the intellect of the brain.

When we trivialise the role and function
of the heart in our lives,
then we end up with a very
limited view of the world
as if we have only one eye.

However,
when our heart and brain waves
act in synchrony,
our thoughts become more focused and rational.
We need to have
our hearts and brains in order,
because that is the balance of batin and zahir.

Finally,
we need to always remember
the words of the Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Indeed, there is in the body a piece of flesh
which it is sound then the whole body is sound,
and if it is corrupt then the whole body is corrupt.
Indeed, it is the heart.
(Bukhari and Muslim)

What I did last Raya

Cornflakes Madu :')

I've been eating honey cornflakes made that my dear friend,
Alya Farah brought to SSP.
Her mom always cooked extra for me <3

Since I left SSP,
I never had them anymore!

So last year, I tried to make honey cornflakes
and they turned out to be brown
instead of golden, bitter instead of sweet
and hard instead of crunchy :')

#sadlyfe

I think I have to do some baking for this raya,
but really, I don't even have the mood :(

The Year I Met You | Book Review

This book is a bit different.
It's about Jasmine and Matt who were fired from their jobs.
Jasmine was given gardening leave,
she didn't have to work for 1 year but she's still remaining on the payroll.
Matt had to go through the same situation.
They're neighbours.
Matt was a popular DJ in Ireland but one of his shows
became controversial, so he had to stop working.
Matt had issues with his family, his wife left him, his son hated him.
Jasmine lost her mom when she was 15 because her mom had cancer.
Her sister, Heather had Down Syndrome and her dad remarried Leilah and they had a daughter named Zara.

Jasmine didn't like it when people felt sympathy for her.
She felt like she didn't need people's help and
she constantly felt the need to protect her sister.

Jasmine hated Matt because of one of his shows discussing
Down Syndrom and she felt that
Matt wasn't being respectful.

Slowly, the gardening leave caused them to become closer
and they truly understood each other's situation.

I thought they're gonna fall for each other.
But they're not!

They remained friends and they both managed to solve their problems
as time passed by.

I learned that
we shouldn't rush in this world.
We should consider others' opinion and
think about we act.
We should grab the chances that we're given and
stop holding back.

When we have problems that we think we can't solve
or get away from,
we should consider doing something as a distraction.
Find new hobbies, do new stuff and build some amazing interests
and never feel like the world is ending.

When the caterpillar thought that his life
was gonna end, he became a butterfly :)

Eleanor & Park | Book Review

The other book that I read was this book!
It's different than the other two books
as it's more to high school kids' love story.

I felt old reading this.

It's been a long time since I've left those years
lol.

So

But the author had done a great job in making me remember
those sweet memories from high school.

One of the many things that I learned was
we really couldn't judge people from
their appearances.

Also, your foes can be your life savers.

Eleanor was a girl with problematic life.
Her stepfather was never an easy person to deal with
and her mom would always want to have the idea of perfect family
even if she had to dismiss her kids' feelings.

Park had a great family.
When Eleanor was in trouble, his family was there to help her out.

Overall, it's a good book to picturize a life of
a kid from a broken family and how
love can change everything.

After You | Sequel to Me Before You | Book Review

After I read the whole pages of Me Before You,
I discovered that there's a sequel to it.
I was sooo sad because
Qim bought three books for me using his book voucher.
I could have bought this one, but I didn't because I didn't know.
#sadlyfe

We went to Kinokuniya again,
but the book was sold out.
So last week, I went with my mum and
there're only 4 books left!!
But they're the larger copies!
Larger = more expensive!

I had to fork out RM64-ish to buy this book,
instead I could have bought two novels with that.

But did I have any choice?
No!
(I am very impatient to know what would happen next!)
Okay I could really just buy the e-book and save the environment
but I like the smell of the books and the feeling of flipping the pages.
#dramatic

After You, it was shocking!
I didn't expect Will Traynor to have a daughter that he had never known before.
Lou helped her to get to know her dad and her dad's family.
Will's parents had divorced, yet they're still in good terms.
They was shocked by the news,
so in between the period of knowing the sudden news
and accepting Will's daughter as their grandchild,
the daughter had caused trouble.
A 16-year-old girl, who didn't receive much love
and attention from her family, would cause trouble.
Lou helped Lily in solving her problems.

Lou got an offer to work as carer in NYC,
but she kept deferring the offer to help Lily.

She also faced trouble with her sister who had a son and was still unemployed.
Her mom and her dad kept on arguing over feminist issues.
She kinda had affection for the Ambulance Guy who helped her when she fell from 2nd floor building, but she thought the guy had a son and just played with her feeling, so she decided to keep
her distance from him.

Problems after problems.

I hardly caught my breath reading the book.

Lou was still tied to her love towards Will
and she didn't put herself first.

But I guess, the sacrifice she made,
was really worth it.
Everyone found her/his happiness in the end.
Selfishness is really never the way to live a wonderful life :)

Me Before You | Book vs Movie | Honest Review!

I am clearly not in the mood of taking #flatlay photo, lol.
So all of the images are from Google!

Me Before You, written by Jojo Moyes is now in the cinema!

I am the kind of girl, who will read the book first before I actually go and watch
the movie.
For example, The Fault In Our Star, Where Rainbow Ends (Love, Rosie) etc.
Most importantly, the trailers play the most significant role'to make me read the book, lol.

A book lover would totally understand the need to imagine
the story, and so I did the same thing.

Me Before You (Book = Movie)

The descriptions in the book were pretty detailed,
which it made me easier to imagine stuff.
Well, I personally like this story because every character changes throughout the plot.
Louisa or Lou,
the heroin of the story was a very chatty person.
She's full of life, she's a happy-go-lucky and cheerful girl.
She tried so hard to cheer Will Traynor,  who had to spend his life on the wheelchair after an accident.
Lou's a selfless girl,
she sacrificed her  bright future for her family
and she sacrificed her time to make the last 6 months that Will had to make them precious.
After so many plannings she made,
they finally went for a vacation,
they really had a good time together
but Lou could never change Will's decision to end his life after that 6 months.
She thought she had given him the life he wanted,
but she was wrong.
Instead, Will had given her so much of new memories in her life.

Will told her to live.
To simply live her life.

The actor and actress had played the role really well.
They just have great chemistry together.
The affection shown in the movie was exactly like how I read it.

Me Before You ( Movie < Book)
In the book, Lou joined online conversation,
in order to help her finding ideas on how to make the best of Will's last 6 months.
In the movie, it skipped that part, but it wasn't that important tho.
When I read the last part of the book, I cried my heart out.
The character that I enjoyed imagining died, I mean, it hurt so badly.
But when I watched the movie,
I guess due to the pre-knowledge that I had,
I didn't cry as bad.
Regardless,
Jojo Moyes has done a really great job.
She almost beats Cecilia Ahern as my most favourite author.
I have yet to read her other books!

One of the most significant items of the book and movie!

Ramadhan Kareem!

It's Ramadhan here,
and I would like to wish
all of you to have great Ramadhan!

Of many sins I've been comitted,
of many judgments I've made,
of many hearts I've hurt.
of many disappointments I've caused,
of many eyes I've irritated,
of many minds I've poisoned,
of many people I've annoyed,
of many hatreds I've shown,
I am here to repent.

I truly appreciate all of the wonderful thoughts and cares
that people show to me,
and to those who have constantly spreading lies and stories about someone I am not,
I have forgiven you since ever :)

Spread happiness and positive vibes :)

Little Escapade with The Fam

The noob Aliah always feels like
the term road trip is meant for
a vacation abroad.

I was silly for thinking that haha!

The truth is,
my family has always been on the road trips
to all parts of Semenanjung Malaysia.
We've never taken plane to go travel
within Semenanjung
(okay la Langkawi but the rest, my dad would drive)

As I grow older,
I realize that great memory
isn't all about great places,
but great people that you spend with.
A great place is just a bonus!

The complete family,
all 6 of us,
we hardly have time to unite.

Ayah is working in Sabah,
Aiman is studying at a boarding school in Kedah,
I am now in Canada.
Atika used to be in Kedah/KL.

We're all staying at different places,
so whenever we have this chance,
we shall maximize it.

Last Tuesday,
we went to Cameron Highland
and we visited all of the places that we used to go
when we're kids.
And we had some pictures that were taken at those places,
we did the same poses!

We also went to Lavender Garden, Tea Plantation
and Smoke House.
Cameron was nice,
but it's hot!
I thought Cameron was supposed to be a bit chilly?!

Yesterday,
we went to Ledang Waterfall aka Sagil.
It's damn cold,
but I like the scenery,
it's very nature!

Spending time with your complete family
is precious.
It feels like you have all the time and money in the world.
You just feel the love and happiness.
And you can leave all your social medias and phones behind.
Just you and your family.

Also,
I can never leave my camera behind.
I am keen in taking videos now,
because I just love watching moving pictures
and editing them, making vlogs.

So, as usual,
I did make two vlogs for these little getaways.
But wifi....

(this is why I love Canada,
the wifi is MELETOP)

Congratulations to Kak Ija and Abang Shahrul (Ijat)!

I nominated myself as part time

I spent 7 days in KL
at my mak long's place
just to chill with my aunt and cousin
and to meet Qim lol
(sambil menyelam, minum milo ais)

My hangout with Qim was
like one of the best outings eva
because

1. we acted like school kids and visited petrosains

2. he bought me 3 novels; me before you, eleanor & park, the year we met
(i managed to read me before you in 2 days and the next time we went to kino to buy
'after you', it sold out)

3. we had lunch at Chakri!!
(my dad was not happy about it because he said that place wasn't for student like us.
i know, but i couldn't resist it...)

4. we went to times square
(rode on roller coaster, it was daaamn fun! then we rode on dna mixer, it was unpleasant!
i really enjoyed that!!)

5. we watched Angry Bird
(due to our dissiness after riding on the dna mixer,
we decided to watch Angry Bird.
it was funny!!)

6. we ate at the food court and
i had ikan paten! #heaven!

7. we went to Bangsar Village II
to buy duckscarves from fashion valet store
(hoping that Vivy Yusof could recognize her protege, but she went there
few hours after I did)

8. we went to red box to karaoke  sing along hahaha!
we also dance some hindustani songs.
oh yes, we're that crazy!

Thank you Qim!
For the hectic and crazy dayouts  :P

My awesome photographer :)

Last Month...

In the plane,
from Canada to Malaysia,
I only slept for two hours!!
The plane was incredible comfortable
cause it was Qatar Airlines :P
Also, I felt more safe cause before we departed,
the pilot played the doa naik kenderaan.
There're no people beside me, so I conquered three seats by myself,
I could even baring like it's my house.

So, everything was good!

But I couldn't sleep because I was sooooo excited to come home!

I can smell tokmak's asam pedas, acu's laksa, mak long's sambal,
I can imagine me hugging my parents,
all those wonderful feelings!

My first transit was in Philadelphia,
I mean all transits in the non-muslim countries for hijabists
would be a bit hustle because
they always assume you bringing dangerous stuff inside your luggage.
#dahbiasa

But when in Doha, everything was smooth except for
I felt like I was in India hahah
And the difference between Asians and Westerners is, the discipline level.

People in Qatar Airport,
they don't queue up.
All they gotta do was
run with all their hearts to the immigration checkup counters.
So the weak, petite girl was brutally being hit by their shoulders.

But I just didn't care because I was sooo excited to get home.

At the boarding gate, I was so excited to see Malays
because dude, in Montreal we only have less than 10 Malays!!
So I felt a bit like home until they didn't ignore my smile.
That's not thunder, guys! That's my heart scattering into pieces.

For one moment,
I felt like it's true that you'd appreciate your nation,
race, culture, tradition and identity when you're in other countries.

Okay, now I feel like for every moment,
that feeling is true.

 Cut that sad part.

So
when I reached KLIA,
I smiled like the world is all about happiness and tomyam.
I can hear my heart singing,
cause I was so happyyy!!

I wasn't being interrogated by the custom,
everything was perfect except for my luggages and my mind,
we didn't have strong telepathy!
So I wasted almost 1 hour waiting for my luggages.

When I finally reunited with my luggages,
I put them all on the trolley
and I pushed it and I saw many people
were waiting at the arrival hall.

I saw my family but I couldn't run cause my luggages...
Tok Abah spotted me then the rest were like waving and
I hugged my dad and my little cousins were all running to me,
I hugged my mum, I salam everyone!
All my family was there except for Aiman.
My acu's family, my pak andak's family.
I mean, girlsss I could feel the love!

We snapped some pictures then my dad was like
"okay hold on for a sec!"
(cause he looked like he's about to snap my picture)
((oh well, my dad likes photography these days, you can see from his whatsapp profile pic,
it keeps on changing, he edits so many pictures, cool dad))
then....

There's like a prince fell down from the sky!
Qim came!!!
(It rhymes!!!!!!)

OMG!
I didn't expect it, I swear to God.
He supposed to go to Pahang to attend his cousin's wedding
and what was he doing here?!

But yeah,
I was shaking and touched!

He came with a bouquet of daisies!

I don't like roses but daisies.
And chocolates!!
Everything was like perfect!

Everyone was staring cause it looked like
a wedding proposal,
really.

I'm still young, so I can't be someone's wife yet :P

But my happiness was doubled!

Alhamdulillah for this blessing!
It's really the purest kind of happiness
to be with your family after so long!
And to know that
your parents were also parts of the Qim's surprise,
I felt more thankful.
At least I know he passed the first stage!
Hehe

Love,
happy aliah

I broke my promises

Before the summer break started,
I promised myself to blog frequently
but I broke the promise!!

I am so sorry!!

The wifi wasn't treating me so well
and there're so many things happening in my life.

And did I tell you, I have more than 5 vlogs?!

I mean,
that's a lot!
Because it's within 1 month!!

Obv they don't include videos of me talking because they would be BORING!
So I made more like travel vlogs, with some songs.
Like the cool kids, ew.

Haha speaking of cool kids;
I have never felt like being the cool kid.
I am never cool.
I am very clumsy,
dramatic, not calm, less patient.
Cool is definitely not my middle name.

But vloging is pretty awesome,
I like it!

I am gonna post all of the videos' urls soon!

Again, wifi is terrible!
It took me 3 days to upload the Chicago videos.
Hmm

Okay, can I tell you about some wonderful things about my life now?
Next post!
